Time to create 1 infantryman is about 6 months.  Figure you can run 
about a battalion of guys through the course at a time. 1 Battalion of 
light infantry is about 5-700 dudes depending on the set up of the unit. 
  Now figure our trying to stand up a single division, thats about 
15,000 people, and only about 9,000 of them are infantry, you also have 
all of the longer school MOSs, MPs, administration, medical, 
intelligence and so forth.

Thats not to mention the NCOs and Officers to lead them.

Took us about 15 years to retrain from our conscript (draft) Army to our 
all volunteer Army.
