Those are all great things, but not necessarily over CF.

CF is aimed at the web. Java is aimed at, what, security? Something
like that. Distributed processes and whatnot.

I think you'd have a tuffer time "hardening" a ruby app than a CF app.
With flexibility comes, well, flexibility. The folding tripod might
do much of what the "solid" tripod does, but it can't hold as much
weight.

Basically it's all about the right tool for the job, and perhaps even
about coding/thinking in a way that makes swapping tools and languages
not such a big deal. Perhaps. Depends on reality, which isn't a sure
bet, sorta (which is why it's so fun, maybe).

There's nothing wrong with discarding stuff either. You still
garnered some type of knowledge from the experience. "Maybe you'll
really only use it that once, anyways", or other sentiments of the
kind. Throwaway code, although of course some throwaway code is
probably powering most of the interweb. So. Um. yeah.

I'll tell you though, the tools for hibernate (a java based ORM) are
AWESOME! And "free". Spring can do amazing things too. Crap, I
think I'm sliding towards java. Oh well, great tools. Round trip UML
and whatnot... course, when you get into that stuff, coding for
multiple languages isn't to crazy to do. Plenty of tools to help with
that, as well.

Guess it all depends on what you want to do today, and where you want
to go tomorrow-- sometime where you'll be, or want to be, in 10 years
(but that's pretty crazy! (As in "not average" or maybe "not normal".
Much as we pretend it is.)).

You could build Rome out of legos, if you wanted to. And I personally
would think it was pretty cool. (So long as it wasn't made out of the
"bad" plastics. Heh!) Might take longer on the grand scale though,
than another material.

But hell, these ARE computers. We can do whatever the heck we want to
with 'em. Make a lego-building builder, and whatnot. :-)

So whatever floats your boat!
