>How about instead of just repeating the mantra of change you actually >look at this guy. > >He refuses to wear a flag, or respect it during our national anthem by >putting his hand over his heart.
I don't think that such shallow displays are indicative of true patriotism. To me its more patriotic to work for years in a public interest law firm for minimal pay than to puff out one's chest and wrap yourself up in the flag. That reminds me of a quote by Samuel Johnson: Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. Life of Samuel Johnson (1791), v2 April 7, 1775, p. 253 >From Wikipedia: Boswell's full mention of this statement reads: Patriotism having become one of our topicks, Johnson suddenly uttered, in a strong determined tone, an apophthegm, at which many will start: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." But let it be considered, that he did not mean a real and generous love of our country, but that pretended patriotism which so many, in all ages and countries, have made a cloak of self-interest. -- I think that those who make the greatest protest that Obama is not patriotic really fits within Johnson's description, they're using it as a cloak of self-interest. > >He converted from Islam to Christianity at his wife's suggestion that it >would cause him election problems. Wow given that he said he was raised in a non religious household, where his father was an atheist, and his step father thought religion was useless, talk about being far sighted. His so called conversion to christianity happened over 20 years ago. Again talk about far sighted if he did it to become president. That sort of forward looking approach may be what we need, rather than looking just to the next election. > >He associates with bigots, communists, socialists and terrorists. Communists? If you're talking about his neighbours, remember they sit on the Chicago city council. So the 7 or 8 republicans who also sit on the council are also fellow travellers by your definition. Your accusation is just a pale imitation of Joseph McCarthy. What next are you going to have him hauled up to the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities? Have him Blackballed by Hollywood? Threaten to have him jailed unless he turn over the names of his associates? How unpatriotic of you. > >He supports expanding the federal governments roll in education >(expensive and unconstitutional), socialized health care (expensive and >unconstitutional), very strict gun control (unconstitutional). remember the first part of the second amendment. You could also argue that there is a definite national interest in education, at least from an interstate commerce and national security viewpoints. Moreover last I looked, health and health care is pretty much tied up in life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So it could be considered to be constitutional. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;192386516;25150098;k Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:261205 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
