I used an eBike for a few years to build up to a regular bike - can't recommend it enough. Of course eBike went out of business and I can't find a replacement battery for my bike... but still, I loved it. It rides as a bike (peddles and all) but on a single charge would carry even my fat ass for up 20 miles at 14 miles an hour (add in some moderate peddling and even I could easily maintain 20 mph on a flat). Took me 30 minutes to get to the office in Boston (about 7 miles away) whether I rode the bike or took the train... so it fit in perfectly.
