Not necc a great solution for everyone, but I have been creating wordpress
blogs, and using cf to send the current html content of the blog as the
newsletter to all of the signed up people. I handle the signup and canceling
in cf as well.

The wordpress blog then can use standard blog themes, or can get a
hand-crafted theme that matches my site, and you can add all the standard
wordpress widgets, and use the standard writing tools to allow the
newsletter writer to add content.
