I will vote for McCain because he is fiscally far more conservative
than Obama. I don't see any "options open" from an Obama
administration when it comes to fiscal policy. The things that really
concern me are:

- Raising capital gains taxes to a punitive level, which will really
hurt middle income Americans who save for retirement through 401K and
IRA plans.
- Raising income taxes.
- Raising or even eliminating the ceiling on Social Security taxes.
- Renegotiating free trade deals, whatever that means. Whatever it
means can't be good.

If all of his proposals are enacted, the US will have one of the
highest total tax burdens for the top tax bracket in the world, and
about 40% of wage earners will pay no federal incomes taxes, only FICA
taxes.

All put together, his proposals sound like old-school welfare state economics.

In foreign policy, Obama wanted to abandon Iraq. Had he gotten his way
last year, we would already be out of Iraq, which would have been left
to implode in fighting among Al Qaeda, Sunni extremists, and Shiite
militias backed by Iran. His judgment at that point was terrible. How
we can trust someone in foreign policy when they showed such bad
judgment in making a very important strategic decision?

Obama still wants to leave Iraq. Fortunately for him and even though
the voted against it, the surge has worked so well that leaving within
a couple of years may just be a possibility.

Furthermore, he talks recklessly of invading Pakistan to pursue Al
Qaeda and the Taliban. It is a terrible idea to talk publicly about
that, and an even worse idea to actually contemplate doing it
publicly. The last thing the world needs is a nuclear-armed Pakistan
going over the edge into chaos, but he seems oblivious to that
possibility.

In short, I just don't trust the guy to make the right decisions.
