Dear CF-Community, I am writing to ask you to if you could spare some time and money and postage to send a hat or a dude rag to a little girl with Leukemia.
About three months ago, my friend Margaret shared that her best friend was dying of cancer and leaving three little girls behind. Two months ago, she died and I've been listening as Margaret shared how the girls were coping and how the family was faring. This week, she shared that Jordan, the 8 year old daughter of her friend, was ill. They were doing bloodwork but there was some problem with white blood cells and it might be leukemia, Yesterday the worst was confirmed. Jordan has leukemia. I imagine after losing her mother so recently to cancer that she must be very scared, as is the rest of her family, and friends, and even people like me who've never even met this little girl from texas. The doctor told Jordan today that she would lose her hair. Pretty distressing news for a little girl especially after she saw her mom lose hers. Anyway, another friend of ours, said that she wanted to knit/crochet a hat for her. So we started thinking about how cool it would be if Jordan got hats from all over the country. They don't have to be expensive or store bought. We just thought it might be cool if she had a closet full of hats/doo rags that she could choose from. So if you're up for the challenge, Margaret sends the following suggestions. Something regional, something purple, something little petshopish, something funky. Jordan loves anything with "Air Jordan" on it. She's a big athlete normally and is really disappointed that she's having to put her tackle football career on hold for the moment. She's loud and outspoken and funny and sweet.
