Which was known to be pure bullshit then and now. The strain in question was a Ft. Detrich derived Aims Strain. The anthrax strain was identified shortly after the first death. And McCain probably knew it. The strain that the Iraqis had (in very small research quantities) came from American Type Culture Collection in the early 1980's. While it was distantly related to the Aims strain, it was quite different that the stuff used in these attacks.
