At first he will get some additional traction because he's the new guy, but
very soon he will start "slipping" with people just like Bush does.

Basically, I think the reason why he will get votes is not because of any of
the things you've mentioned, nor would his election produce any other kind
of following than Bush currently has. Republicans are desperately seeking
John Notbush so they themselves can't be accused of falling in lockstep with
Bush. They want someone who claims to be Notbush to carry their standard
high again, and they would vote for a yellow dog if he headed the ticket
(hence the immediately love affair with Palin).

I honestly believe McCain has severe mental health issues stemming from his
5-year incarceration and torture in Vietnam, and that those issues will
manifest themselves in a revenge-seeking president with a knee-jerk reaction
to Asian leaders. Down deep inside he desperately needs to show the world
that he can vanquish those little so-and-so's who tortured him and
controlled his every move for so long.

If you're skeptical, talk sometime to a woman who had been battered and
intimidated by her husband for a much shorter period of time, say a few
months, and ask her how it affects her to this day.

Now make her President of the United States, and then sit her at the
decision table with the uniformed Generals of the armed forces who are
asking her in forceful yet technically polite tones how they need more money
and power to punish the enemy.

Think of all the ways that meeting and its hundred-billion-dollar decisions
could go.

How many of them would be in the best interest of the country?

Respectfully,

Adam Phillip Churvis
