Mess kits have been gone for a long time. MREs come with spoons :) If we're on a FOB we eat in a chow hall.
We had a microwave sent to us and one guy had a griddle sent so he could do Virginia ham. No hotplates are allowed to be run in most instances, there have been too many fires from them, I personally won't sleep in a hooch with one. Had a propane burner used mainly for heat, but did get some chicken on the local economy when we were in Ghazni we boiled with ramen and stuff for a soup. On the bigger FOBs food is actually provided by civilian contractors and can be pretty good, you also will have things like burger king, pizza and even Chinese food on Bagram and Victory. Also we were able to get limited supplies of other food stuffs from the PX, coffee, tuna pouches, ramen. The list you've made is incredible and will really be appreciated. Variety being I think the hardest part of it, you're always eating the same stuff, drinking the same stuff, re-watching movies, rereading books and magazines. I've said it before Adam, but it should be said again, you're a good man.
