You might be surprised to know that if you get far enough away from any
interstate highway, you will find communities where racism is not just the
domain of a few loons, it is the accepted worldview. In those places they
might use the word 'Negro' or 'colored person', and those are the polite
terms.

I don't personally use the word except to point out the fact that those
terms are not dead.
