Last summer (2007) I went to an eye specialist to figure out why I had
an instance of double images. Long story short, they figured out that
I didn't have it when using contacts, but with did have it with
glasses and when not using anything. One of the things they also
figured out is that it's very hard to nail down my prescription as the
specialist said, "Your eyes are really strong and can focus well with
different prescriptions"

After trying out their optometrist who kept insisting on putting me in
contacts with different focal depths, I quit going there.

I went back to my local wal-mart optometrist that I've been using for
about 7 years now and told him the story. He told me that my
astigmatism is what causes the ghosting and that it made sense that my
contacts would clear it up. Anyway, during the examination, he
measured me out to be about 2 clicks worse in sight, -2.75 on one and
-3.25 on the other.

I ended up getting some reading glasses as it was getting damn hard to
read some of these technical books and my eyes were getting very sore
without them. I started realizing that if I kept my reading glasses
on all day, aside from the pain of glasses, my eyes were feeling much
better.

So the question is:

If my vision is -2.75 and -3.25 and I've got some +1.5 reading
glasses...do they offset each other so that my real prescription
should be -1.25 and -1.75?
