I can't imagine lugging around a dSLR vs a pretty compact Lumix or something of similar quality. Plus, a dSLR will get a crapload of dust inside it from the lens barrel zooming in and out. I speak from experience regarding the dust...and it's a pita to clean the sensor when you get dust in there.
