Two funny things I've read this weekend reminded me that with all of
this election talk I forgot how hilarious Bush still is!

(1.) From Gail Collins of the NY Times
George W. Bush showed up on TV Friday morning to reassure the nation.
What could possibly be worse?

Everybody knows that anything our president says is very likely wrong,
and certainly won't happen. If he announced: "I'm sending government
agents to Spokane to arrest the looters," we would expect that the
officials would get lost, nobody would be arrested, and the looters
probably never existed in the first place.

So hearts sunk throughout the nation when Bush appeared at a Chamber
of Commerce gathering to say that the economy would recover.

"America is the most attractive destination for investors around the
globe. America is the home of the most talented and enterprising and
creative workers in the world," said the president, who also insisted
that "democratic capitalism remains the greatest system ever devised."

Which translates into: all the money is going to Asia, nobody will
ever get a job again and Karl Marx was right after all.

Bummer.

(2.) From Roger Ebert's review of W
One might feel sorry for George W. at the end of this film, were it
not for his legacy of a fraudulent war and a collapsed economy.

The film portrays him as incompetent to be president, and shaped by
the puppet masters Cheney and Rove to their own ends. If there is a
saving grace, it may be that Bush will never fully realize how badly
he did. How can he blame himself? He was only following God's will.

(3.) Bonus 3rd item from Bush himself
"In the long run, the American people can have confidence that our
economy will bounce back. "

Wow! You're great. So basically you're saying that just about
everything - no, everything - in your life that you've ever touched
you've completely fucked up. But, from experience, you know that "in
the long run" it will "bounce back."

Ah, man, dude still has got it. You gotta admit that. No, seriously.
People actually voted for this guy. Twice! Nope, I'm not kidding.

He's been in office for 8 years and on the twilight of his presidency
he actually said - you gotta hear this again:

"In the long run, the American people can have confidence that our
economy will bounce back. "
