There are 2 questions around taxes: collections and spending. (1.) Collections. -------------------------- This done on a graduated scale. That is some people pay a LOT (like 40% of *salary*), and some people pay nothing and the rules as to which one you are are massively complex. The theory behind all of these complex rules is social engineering: by manipulating collections policy we encourage things we want, discourage things we don't want. EXAMPLE: Low income folk that pay $0 in taxes are being invested in; the theory being that by excluding them from tax burden we will give them the help they need to build wealth and ultimately pay taxes. For what's it worth, that worked with me. CONCLUSION: If you disagree with social engineering through tax collections policy they you would favor the Flat Tax (or no tax). (2.) Spending ---------------------------- This is done via complicated congressional approved legislation. The theory behind the spending, in general, is to both pay for our governmental operations and for social engineering and investment. EXAMPLES: (a.) Highway spending is an investment in infrastructure that contains a positive ROI. (b.) The "stimulus" package is an investment in the American Worker as it is thought to have propped up the economy and thus enables wealth creation. (c.) The "bailout" is an investment as it is suspected to prop up the economy and create a positive ROI. (d.) Obama's tax plan is another investment in the worker and thought to prop up the economy and to create wealth. CONCLUSION: If you disagree with social engineering through spending then you should oppose the bailout, stimulus packages, and infrastructure spend. i.e., you're libertarian. DENOUEMENT So you're being logically inconsistent by supporting some investments and social engineering, but not others, without bothering to have a quantitative analysis behind your reason. In other words, it's hypocritical to oppose one social investment on principle, but support another. Either disagree with numbers, or principle, or both. But please be consistent. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:275612 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
