It's funny because for the last prolly 10 Christmas' my wife and I always talk with her grandfather about how in his day the dinner-party discussion was *how you saved*. E.g., "I'm investing in bonds because they ... blah blah blah." "I'm going with oil equity because blah blah blah" In the last decades - really since the 80s I hear - American chat has changed. Instead of opening with what-do-you-do?-and-how-do-you-save? the last 20 years have been what-do-you-do?-and-how-do-you-spend? It used to be cool to make 10%. Now it's cool to have bought a condo in Hawaii.
