Amusing, though as most pithy anecdotes go, far from complete. Yes, the IRS seized the Mustang Ranch. You might then note that the IRS is really not in the business of running a business (or, more debateably, a whorehouse). The primary cause of closure though was that they were being soundly mocked and ridiculed because the government was running a whorehouse and people thought they had no business doing that.
So yeah, put an agency in charge of a business that doesn't have any understanding of business and then have a large number of people scream at them for operating said business and you are likely to have a not so successful business. One may hope that the current bailout scheme will do better because they are avoiding the above issues.
