Interesting. Did a quick google and found this: http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayton_john/1457923.html
relevant snippet: "The NFL wisely bowed to pressure and went to a sudden death overtime system in 1974. Since then, there have been 330 overtime games. Only 93 games were won by teams who won the coin toss and then scored on their first possession. That's only 28 percent." I do know that for me, it sure feels like the team that wins the toss wins the game. Shit, kickers can make FG from 55+ yards routinely nowadays. Makes it a lot easier to get that first score. I'm not defending the decision (again, I'd love to see it changed to "each team gets at least one OT possession")... just reiterating what I'd heard when the league opted to not change the rule. BTW, to bring this somewhat back on topic... the article linked to contains the following: "There isn't a coach in football who would go for a two-point conversion or gamble on a touchdown if the option of kicking an extra point in the final seconds of a game sends a game into overtime." :) On Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 9:25 AM, Won Lee <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Overtime: > http://www.maa.org/mathland/mathtrek_11_08_04.html > http://www.advancednflstats.com/2008/10/how-important-is-coin-flip-in-ot.h > tml<http://www.advancednflstats.com/2008/10/how-important-is-coin-flip-in-ot.html> > > > I can vouch for the second site, not sure about the first. > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Charlie Griefer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Monday, November 10, 2008 12:12 PM > To: cf-community > Subject: Re: KC > > I thought that this was statistically inaccurate?
