Another point...  The goalie will sometimes leave without being replaced.
This can place a team in a numerical advantage, especially during a power
play.

I have seen this tactic used a number of times by ECHL teams.  The Ice
Gaters, of Lafayette, LA, did this the most often of the teams I watched.
