It's the coach, not the team, and that's what the Economist is talking about.

Geithner has been around for a long time: Clinton, Bush, Obama.  We're
not picking a champion fighter for a boxing match, we're picking one
member of a large team; so the real question is does Geithner fit in
to the team and is he good pick for the role?

The answer is yes.

Will he be successful?  Who knows.
