Who is your instructor?

Half of the idea of using a laser sight is that, with at least a little
trigger control, you hit where the dot is.  The other half -- the more
important half -- is to *broadcast the fact that you can do this right now*
if they don't back off immediately.  More than any other element of a
firearm, the appearance of a bright red laser dot on an attacker's torso is
responsible for more firearms being effective in stopping crimes without
firing a single shot.

The sound of a shotgun slide chambering a round runs a close second.  

It's *all about* broadcasting.
