LOL! Neither. :P

Seriously. I don't even know how we got on the topic of socks and underwear,
but he mentioned his sisters' got their kids socks and underwear, which made
me remember getting them as a kid, and that launched me into a diatribe of
how I think they rank up there with appliances (like washer's, dryers, etc)
that you need on a day to day basis.

And he was trying to defend the decision to buy socks and underwear (regular
everyday stuff) for Christmas presents, and there's simply no defense to it
in my mind, so I figured I would poll all you guys.

Again - I understand it's the thought that counts. :)  Heck I was grateful
to get anything as a kid. We didn't have a lot of money, ever. But if I ever
have a kid, he or she will never get socks and underwear for Christmas. :)
