Is that like saying they were hired for their opinions, sorta?

For the idea that humans can and do affect the environment? Even the climate?

I'm down with that. :-)P

/me waxes thoughtfully random

I think G[to the funky o]del influences my thoughts here. True, even
if impossible to prove.

And that's sorta a joke. I think the proof is there. I can see it.

And maybe we cannot do it alone, but I'd rather try, than say, "well,
nobody else is doing it, so fuck it", ya know?

There is a lot of easy money in oil, and- hey!, Polyvinyl chloride
records are made of oil, sorta, right?

Funny story about the recording industry-- You ever heard of that
term "saturating the market"? Well, basically, long story short: to
make money, The Industry has kept us at a lower tech level than
other... nations? countries? whatever.

That's bullshit, right? Who do they think they are?

But anyways, it's crazy to see this attitude like "our interests are
in their best interests" about X industry. There are plenty of
examples of us being screwed by 'em -- like farming (which has also
sorta screwed farmers, but whatever) -- or flying ('cept for
southwest), or the auto one... on and on...

The energy industry has screwed us before, neh?

Us Americans consume like crazy, in general.

The chains of consumption, which sorta bind us-- well, we can sorta
bust a judo-ish move with those chains, and get some shit we want.

I *want* people to be concerned about the environment's impact on us.
I don't think it's a hobble or handicap, in fact, I think it's
forethoughtful (pardon the grammatical uncorrectness).

....

Anyways, it's just cool to have the thinkers at the helm again. Or
clever shysters who fool us into /thinking/ we thinking, as the case
may be.

The 15-20 minute lead time we have on tornadoes seems to have really
reduced the number of fatalities -- that's a poor analogy, but
whatever, I'm just say'n: Investing in stuff like solar and whatnot,
and limiting pollution, seem like cool side-effects to this dog
wagging.

Um, yeah.
