I've lifted this bit (I don't think he'll object, since I'm giving him a plug) from a recent posting -- --- This Associated Press article about Arafat's latest game includes this sentence: Arafat has been under pressure that is "unreal for an old man like him," said Zeid Abu Shawish, a Palestinian doctor in the compound. Because I waste a lot of time browsing the news and photo wires, something about this reminded me of a April 6 photograph of Sean Connery. Connery is about the same age (give or take a few months) than the shaking, wheezing Arafat. And both are nationalists. Connery, a Scot, has used his money and fame to promote Scottish nationalism for decades. He doesn't want war or anything stupid like that -- he just supports home rule for Scotland. The Queen even gave him one of those honor things. Connery is routinely described by film fans as a very handsome man. Arafat is routinely described by humans as some sort of Yoda-muppet version of a dead Ringo Starr. Scotland has its own parliament now, and has since 1997. The Palestinian Authority has ... uh, something, I'm sure. Anyway, Arafat should be killed. Wait, that wasn't the point at all. The point is that Connery is a healthy, rich, beloved golf fanatic living in Spain and Arafat is a stinky old death whore living in a wrecked old British imperial building in the Middle East. -- between the dashes are Ken's words, not mine.
