possible for planes to land on water without breaking up.

I sure thought they did. (Trying to confirm this with pops, but he's not
answering the phone). Those simulators are pretty sophisticated...i'm pretty
sure they could simulate a liquid surface upon landing and gauge what
affects the resulting stresses would have on the aircraft.
