So Mr. (ex-Senator) Coleman has his day in court trying to convince a
3 judge panel that they should throw out the election results and have
a new round of looking at absentee ballots. That's fine, it is his
right to petition certainly.

Things aren't going well so far. His basic legal argument is that
there are 5,000 rejected absentee ballots that should be re-examined
for possible inclusion. A "count every vote" mantra, which is noble in
a generic sense. A little weird given that the first witness is a
Coleman campaign member who signed an affidavit last month saying that
there were only 600-odd improperly rejected ballots, but whatever.

But things got weird. So the Coleman campaign wants to introduce big
notebooks of absentee ballots that they think were improperly
rejected. You can look at the envelopes and say to yourself, gee, why
were these rejected?

Only problem: the envelopes were altered by the Coleman campaign. In
instance after instance, the "photocopy error" was removing the
post-it note that election officials had attached explaining why the
ballot was rejected. In some cases, the notes on the envelopes were
added by the Coleman campaign. In some cases, existing notes were
removed and campaign notes were added. Ooops.

The judges were not pleased and tossed the whole lot. Coleman has to
go subpoena the originals and submit those into evidence if he wants
to continue that line of argument. A whole day down the crapper for
their legal team, witnesses they call contradicting the people who
called them and all their evidence tossed. When they explained to the
judges that they weren't sure what they would do tomorrow since the
ballots won't be ready the judges told them too bad. Find some
witnesses.

Couldn't happen to nicer guys.
