Yeah and I shut down their website and a check appeared a few days later that I cashed first before turning the site back on.
If they want access/source code, they owe you before you turn it over. A client that is 60 days overdue on their bill to me for 1200 I called Monday and told them I was taking on 10% interest and she said she was waiting for two big checks and then I would get paid. I asked her if that was what she told her mortgage company or if she was still getting a paycheck herself.. I didn't want that to be used as an excuse on me. The client is over 60 days due on programming services, hasn't paid their hosting bill in 3 months and says "Great job on recent updates, but I'm not the only one with overdue invoices", which doesn't make me feel any better (this company sold $82 million dollars last year). To this day, they claim they want more work out of me if I will just talk with the other development firm and give them the database + source code so "they" can write up a proposal to modify the site. The whole thing smells of bad business practices. Have either of you been in a similar situation, particularly where you had some leverage in the deal (hosted their site; client doesn't have access), and client is overdue on two, soon to be three invoices?
