Obama and the Democrats in the Senate tried their damnedest to not let
Burris get seated. A judge in Illinois ruled that the SOS had to
certify the appointment. Stupid as it may seem, Blago is the Governor
and he has the power to appoint whoever he wants. Odious but sadly
constitutional. Reid put himself in a ridiculous position of trying to
bar Burris without a legal leg to stand on and then having to
capitulate. Of course Reid is rather good at capitulating, so no
surprise there.
