Subject: Vista Must Die

My MS wireless mouse (the kind with the little dongle you plug into the USB
port) just croaked, so I bought a new wireless mouse. I decided to go
Bluetooth so I could skip the dongle, which takes up a valuable USB port and
gets in the way. I picked up an HP Bluetooth Laser Mobile Mouse, primarily
because I have an HP laptop, but also because that's the only one I saw at
BestBuy and I didn't want to shop around.

I got the thing home and got the driver software installed. Then I tried to
run the HP Easy Pair software to pair the mouse. No luck, the software
complains that btcoreif.dll is missing and refuses to run. Huh. So I open
the Help file for the mouse from the CD, and it tells me to pair the mouse
manually using the Bluetooth manager. So I put the mouse in pairing mode and
try to add it. Vista finds the mouse and asks me about using a passkey. The
docs say no passkey, so I say no passkey. Vista does its thing and says that
the mouse is paired and ready to be used. Only the mouse "pairing mode
light" is still blinking, and moving the mouse around doesn't do squat.
Vista thinks the mouse is paired, but the mouse is clueless.

Lots of additional attempts later, the mouse is still not talking to Vista.
So I move over to my Ubuntu desktop and ask it to add the mouse. It finds
the mouse and pairs it within 5 seconds, and the mouse works. MSFT should be
ashamed, and it leads me to the conclusion that Vista Must Die.
