The feds are going to force the prisoner release because of the
overcrowding.  Another good move would be to sell San Quentin and
allow that land to be developed.  It would easily bring enough money
to build another prison someone out in the boonies, like Kern County,
and have enough left over to make a serious dent in the budget
deficit.

Another immediate help would be to divert the Federal stimulus money
from all the feel good projects into a serious fix for the water
shortage.  Solar powered desalination, towing an iceberb down from the
arctic,  rebuilding the levees for better flood control.  Lots of
potential that would prevent the loss of jobs and crops.  Much better
use of funds than doorknobs and duck ponds.
