Just to clarify. I am NOT OK with the policies that were enacted after
9/11. However, I can understand why some would think it was necessary.

The way I look at it 9/11 fucked up every one's way of thinking. I was part
of the rescue operation at Ground Zero on 9/12. Trust me, I am not happy
about some of the thoughts that popped into my head while I was there that
day (and the days and weeks following).

So, in the aftermath, when everyone was still a little shell shocked, I can
understand some of these things coming up as ways to possibly prevent
another attack. I would even be willing to go out on a limb and say that
someone said something like 'We need ideas on how to stop this from
happening again. I don't care how ludicrous it sounds, throw it out there.'
But they never should have been enacted. It bothers me that some common
sense did not trickle in after a while.

That being said, it also pisses me off that we can't profile terrorists, but
we can profile serial killers. Its ok to say we are looking for a middle
aged white guy with above average intelligence who is an under achiever
(above average intelligence excepted, that sounds a lot like me). But we
cannot say we are looking for someone of Middle Eastern decent who may have
tried to learn to fly a plane without learning how to land or takeoff. Its
bullshit. If you are looking to stop organized crime, are you going to look
at people in the Polish community? Odds are, you will look at people of
Italian or Russian decent. That is not profiling...its common sense.
