I do believe in the fundamentals of the stimulus. However, and this is
a big fucking however, it only works long term if we reign in
government spending and pay down some debt after the economy starts to
rebound. Borrow now, invest, get the engines going, then gradually
pull back, putting surpluses into debt repayment and reducing future
debt obligations for subsequent generations.

Obama is talking that way but I'm not going to give him a big huzzah
until I actually see it happen. Especially since the spending will
really come from Congress. When/if the country starts to turn a corner
will Obama be willing to veto a spending bill from a Democrat-led
Congress to impose fiscal discipline? I'll give him a pass on the
omnibus bill that is heading to his desk as that is house keeping from
a previous administration and we don't have time to get into it now.
Next time around though, no free pass.
