I see where you are coming from. In some circumstances, religion is either
an excuse for, or a cause of, voluntary ignorance on the part of some
people.

But it can have an enormous positive affect as well. Most people are able to
form a solid moral conscience within the context of their religion, and that
serves them...and society...well in the real world.

So I don't think it's slowing down our evolution. It's questioning it...it's
challenging many of our decisions....but that can be, and should be, a
healthy exercise. All things in moderation, even our own evolution.
