Because bringing democracy and free markets to a part of the world that lacked them are demonstrably an investment that pays off. > Or Republican Pork with future generations? I was not impressed by how Republicans managed Congress when they were in control. I don't recall voicing admiration or support for Congressional Republicans. Or when Bush initiated the largest expansion of government since > Johnson funding it with money from future generations? I disliked the Medicare drug benefit. The only positive thing I said about it was that at least it was passed by Republicans, because Democrats wanted a far larger plan. I would have preferred nothing. As for the TARP, I agree with Buffett - things would be a lot worse right now had Congress not acted. Furthermore, the TARP was not spent, it was invested in exchange for stock, and US taxpayers may well get back the money in the future. If the banks stage a recovery, the shares we bought with taxpayer dollars could be sold at a tidy profit. I was not in favor of bailouts for the auto companies. The whole Merrill/Bear/Lehman/AIG string of events totally mystifies me. So-called experts seem to think that letting Lehman go down in flames was a huge mistake and we should have worked out a deal with them as well. I really don't know, and I wonder why we are continuing to put so much money into AIG. Do we have a hope of seeing that money again? > This is why it seems like you have no principles: if we're spending > your kids money on Iraq you're all for it; if it's for Americans then > you're ag'in' it. > I am in favor of good investments. I agree that health care is an issue, I agree that energy security is an issue. Green energy is good, but cap-and-trade is a scam that is going to further damage our economy. At the same time, I recognize the need to act on the number one issue facing us today - the banking system and the broader economy. Obama's team was hugely arrogant in their belief that they could tackle everything at once. A loud and growing chorus of voices is telling them they need to focus, but they are marching blindly forward on multiple fronts while the economy eats itself before their eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;207172674;29440083;f Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/message.cfm/messageid:291293 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/cf-community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
