I got a 1GB card with the phone, but my first extra purchase was a 16GB card... filled it with crossword puzzles, books and lots of music. I loved my old PokcetPC (an IPAQ 1100) but it could accept a 1GB max. I loved my Sansa, but it was 6GB max.
