I've been in Alabama, and trust me, he's right. The California roads are the worst I've ever driven, and I've done just about all the states. Texas is a close second. I don't think I-20 through Texas has been paved since LBJ was president.
I'm adamant about not supporting any stimulus bill that doesn't include road paving for I-880. There was recently as bad wreak near my house because a driver hit a patch of I-880 so damaged it jerked the wheel from her hand and her car traveled into the next lane and into an 18-wheeler.
