Maybe solar flairs were at an all time low for a long period of time causing
the earth to go through a freezing period.

OR

If the story of noah's arc are true, and the world was covered with water.
Wouldn't that cool down the tempruture enough to cause cold cycles? I don't
exactly believe this one myself, just judging from cool breazes you feel on
the shorline.
