To be fair, the evidence presented justifying going into Iraq was made up. Whether or not you believe that the Bush admin knew it or not, we got a snow job.
9/11 though, I'll give you, though I've heard just as many conspiracies from the Right as the Left on that one, maybe a few more of the Left. From the Left, I've seen the bizarre discussions about how there were obviously explosives planted at the base of the towers and that is the only way they could collapse the way they did. I even had that "discussion" with my brother in law. From the Right, I've heard about how the Jews were all told ahead of time to stay home. Some crazy shit. The stuff coming from Rush, Michelle Bachmann, O'Reilley, Glenn Beck, etc right now reminds me a lot of the conspiracy theories around 9/11. The big difference is that the 9/11 conspiracy guys were largely confined to blogs and mailing lists whereas the nutjobs this time around have their own TV shows. There is seriously a shortage of guns and ammo for sale in this country because these guys are telling people that Obama is coming for them. I'm a big fan of freedom of speech. I'm also getting worried that crap being spewed right now is inflaming tensions during a time when people would be on edge anyway because of the economy. I wish that people in positions of media power would take a little responsibility for the way they express themselves. Don't like Obama and some of his policies? That's fine. I don't like some of his policies either. Just please don't go telling people they are coming for your guns, that we have a duty to rise up against the government and that they are blood sucking vampires that need a stake driven through their heart (all recent quotes) and then express shock and anger that people think you might be inciting violence.
