I suffered severe whiplash when the car I was riding in was t-boned by a drunk driver. It's been years, but altho its usually something that heat and ibuprofen can take away anymore, it's still something that is there. I have zero sympathy for drunk drivers. That asshole might have had a hangover the next day. Maybe.
We have had some horrific accidents in New Mexico involving drunk drivers going the wrong way on the interstate -- something about open empty spaces and 75mph? -- but public sentiment here has *somewhat* turned the tide. The most famous recent incident killed six or seven members of a family on their way home from one of the kids' soccer games. The local paper publishes pictures of people arrested for drunk driving. Some of they get re-arrested within a week ::shakes head:: but I've seen people point and laugh at the pictures in the local breakfast places, so at least it is no longer socially acceptable.
