I don't see anything wrong with seeking a wish list. It should be disclosed though. If I need help with ASP who am I going to go ask, a Microsoft person who is an expert in the field (IE the energy companies) who does MS stuff all day or some any anti-Microsoft zealot (IE environmentalist) who hates Microsoft and all they stand for and wants nothing more than to see Linux (ie alternative energy) in place and Microsoft out of business. Bush doesn't need to consult with environmentalists, it's pretty obvious where they stand. There is a happy medium somewhere and I think Bush knows this and can take what the Energy companies say with a grain of salt. Obviously they are not going to get everything they want. Just a reminder 60% of Bushs original Energy policy involved conservation!

It appears that the Republican staffers were calling up various energy lobbyists and asking for their wish lists to include in the Energy policy that Cheny was hammering out: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A56919-2002Apr26.html -- Lobbyist's Wish List Sought E-Mail of Energy Dept. Official Released Under Court Order By Ellen Nakashima Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, April 27, 2002; Page A07 A top Energy Department official e-mailed a natural gas lobbyist last year seeking his wish list in drafting the Bush administration's energy policy, according to documents released this week under a federal court order. "If you were King, or Il Duce, what would you include in a national energy policy, especially with respect to natural gas issues?" Energy Department senior policy adviser Joseph Kelliher wrote in a March 18 e-mail to natural gas industry lobbyist Dana Contratto, a partner with the firm Crowell & Moring. "I am working up the policy elements, and am less confident of my judgement on gas pipeline issues than other areas, and thought I would pick your brain." The e-mail went out as the department was completing its recommendations to Vice President Cheney's energy task force, which released its report on May 17. It is part of thousands of task force documents disclosed as a result of a lawsuit against the agency filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental group. A separate lawsuit from the public interest law group Judicial Watch has resulted in another court order. -- I guess it must have been payback time for all those campaign contributions. larry -- Larry C.
