I don't honestly know if that's true or not. I find it hard to believe
simply because nearly half of this country are still registered republicans.
I don't like to think about 150 million Americans as fringe, low IQ racists.

Maybe, but I wouldn't say the "one chance" they have left. There is a reason
that over half of registered voters are republicans. At some point, they
must have rallied around something, something would and could still endear
them and unite them as a valuable party.

Couldn't they just go back to what that is/was? Or is that too simple to be
realistic?

This would go a LONG way to removing what has been my life long objection to
the GOP. Still, I don't see this ever happening.
