Uh, being elected to a prominent position representing a giant
religious organization is not the same thing as being admitted to a
college. I rather doubt that the college admittance board made his
entry to school contingent upon his religious views. Becoming an
officer of the SBC would definitely depend on your religious views.
Ergo, being appointed an officer of the SBC would imply that, at that
time at least, they found his religious views to be quite agreeable.
And given that his period as an officer was 2006-2007, you could
hardly dismiss it as ancient history.
