I think you've hit the bone (except the NO part, although ...) Anyway, if Iran, over the course of a year or two, begins a transition to democracy then it'll make the invasion of Iraq look like pretty bad policy (if you don't think it does already). The theory with Iraq being, of course, that by invading a country with a dictator - despite it's 2000 year (rough number) civil war - deposing and executing him, and installing a new "democratic" government you can just TA DA! create a new democracy. I don't think you can. People need to choose democracy and fight for it. On their own.
