My 5 1/2 year old Dell XPS desktop(*) crashed and died the other day.
While it's in the shop and I wait to hear if it can be repaired, I have
been musing about replacing it with a laptop (if it indeed needs to be
replaced).

My last venture with a laptop was an old pre-Pentium Gateway that I
bought back in 1993. It had a 486 chip and ran a blazingly fast 450Mhz!
I think the hard drive was about 100Mb or so. Alas, it's hard drive died
in 1995 and I've had Windows desktops since.

So, I'm curious about how many other web developers have abandoned
desktops in favor of laptops. Do developers prefer having just a laptop,
or do they like to keep a desktop as their main machine and use a
laptop only to take on the road? I don't travel so I wouldn't see the
advantage of having both - just one or the other.

What say ye?

* It's actually too big to be a desktop. It sits under my desk and sucks
in about a pound of cat hair a week.
