It gets better. First off you understand that my mother is Scottish. When I was learning to play the bagpipes, I'd have to practice outside, that is until or neighbours complained. So living near the wilds of the Great Canadian West (read the suburbs of Winnipeg), I would go into some open fields to practice. The dog would come with me, as soon as I started to play he'd start howling. I felt really betrayed.
