Capitalism - aligning self-interest with systemic societal wealth
creation - is the only thing that will save the planet.

and, as long as I'm going all GG on you, I'll quote the other famous GG:

"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better
word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts
through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed,
in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge
has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words,
will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning
corporation called the USA."

Take the airline industry for example. It's never been safer,
cheaper, or more easy to fly somewhere. There hasn't been a major
airline crash in 7 or 8 years.

Now take a look at what happens when incentives aren't aligned - look
in the operating room.

Do you think surgeons can claims the same levels of safety that
airline pilots, maintenance crew, and engineers have?

Of course they can't.

Do you know why?

Because doctors get paid when you're sick and they don't get penalized
(really) for making mistakes. WHY? The consumer doesn't pay the
doctor. The consumer and don't aren't aligned via self-interest.

And THAT'S how I work healthcare into this thread.

Ta-da!
