Yes, that irritates me as well when people assume that....much of my family in fact thinks I'm a hypocrite for being Christian but also being left of center. When I personally feel I come a heck of a lot closer to living Christian ideals than most of them do. >Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard >for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." > >is not exactly within the ideological slant of the right wing. Well, to be fair he isn't saying here that you have to give all your riches to the poor, which is how some people interpret this. Just that everyone tends to have something they idolize more than God, and that is what prevents us from living a truly holy life. For a rich man, that is typically money and prestige, but for others, it may be something else. It's basically saying you have to put God before money, not let money being the guiding force in your life. However, the message in the Bible about helping the poor and needy is *very* clear, and that does seem to be something the right is not overly concerned with. They'll fight tooth and nail against things like health care reform, and in some cases I even agree with them (I have serious concerns about the cost of the health care bill and whether it will adequately control rising costs which is a HUGE part of the problem) but they never seem to come up with solutions of their own that are any better. The basic argument I often get is the old trickle-down theory....that helping the corporations and maintaining a healthy capitalist society will in the end benefit the poor as well. So far, we've not seen that work in practice particularly well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
