Yeah, in order to make a real data visualization out of that they would have had to record the transactions for midnight to midnight relative to each time zone. And if you wanted to then answer the question of whether some regions are bigger ebay users than others, you'd have to have a second graph that corrects for population density of the sample areas.
Still, nice use of Flash (and probably Flex) to make a pretty marketing thing.
