I'm not really in a sales role, it's more of a "It was my idea so run with
it" kind of thing, if and when I get a bite I'll turn it over to him.

You're marketing director want you in a sales role?  Interesting,  If
you are comfortable in that role there isn't anything wrong there I
guess.

You will have alot more luck if you discover a connection to them
first and go through that connection.  Use LinkedIn, Facebook,
whatever you can.  If you can't find any connection at all, just try
to find out more about an individual you'd like to target for contact
at that company.  Learn all you can about him/her.

Then approach with a very targeted, personally directed email or phone
call to one specific individual at that company.  That will not look
like spam, it will look like an email from one person to another, and
is MUCH more likely to lead to the type of relationship that results
in doing business together.
