Ian, Type I is also probably caused by immune system issues, or other issues that affect the health of the pancreas (such as trauma or disease) as well.
My Type I they think was caused by my losing my spleen in a football accident in high school, and my struggling immune system wrongly attacking my pancreas until it was dead, dead, dead. If the cause of the pancreas's performance decline is not genetic, it needs to be found, as it might be an indicator of another undiagnosed issue.
